4am Miracle

Today we launched onto an unassuming world, the full glory of an all new Ning. I want to go into some more detail, especially from a personal perspective, as what this new product means to me, and talk about my feeling towards it (in short, I couldn’t be prouder). But given it’s 4am, that will have to wait until tomorrow.

In the meantime, sit back relax, and watch Gina and Marc give a little background as to what Ning has just released, courtesy of Scoble.

As to the title? Doesn’t make a lot of sense other than it’s around 4AM in the morning here in Palo Alto (it was a long release), and that allows me to cleverly plug my new Studio 60 Social Network.

(‘4am Miracle’ being the title of perhaps its last ever episode, but fingers crossed that won’t remain the case. Join the cause to see it return at studio60.ning.com!)

Yes! At last a usable ning that actually makes sense. I finlly "get" what it's for, and although the interface for building your own custom css could be better, there is light at the end of the ning tunnel.

My only one criticism is that it's still quite difficult to get to the communities you're a member of. For example, I wanted to check out the very fine lloydyweb ning community, and I thought by logging into ning I would be presented with useful list of the groups to which I belonged. No such luck.

In fact some kind of global user control panel (* cough * ning bar) that lists all the groups you're in would be good. That and global user pages, with information that would propagate the lame group questions you're required to fill in on joining any ning-community.

All in all I'm impressed, keep up the good work you ninger.

Hey Jon!

We took that exact feature out of the Ningbar on Wednesday to speed things up and will be adding it back in a few days.

Thanks for the kind words generally. We really appreciate it!
