In just under a months time I will be turning my trousers brown before placing myself upon a small stage and speaking for just 2 minutes at 20×2 v7.0, a small event that takes place during the SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas.
What is 20×2 I hear you cry. Well according to the website, it’s:
…an ongoing project that exists to showcase the creativity that lurks in each of us. Writers, musicians, filmmakers, web geeks and other bon vivants are asked to take two minutes each to answer the question of the day…
This years question is ‘What If?’
Once again, it’s due to me knowing Jon Roobottom that this came about (like so many other things). Jon did this last year when the event travelled outside of Texas for the first time and landed in London. My excitement in his appearance led to 20×2 organiser Kevin Newsom asking if I would like to take part in a show too, which was an opportunity I leapt at.
Now it’s all official, it’s time to get my thinking cap on and think about what I’m going to spend the 2 minutes talking about. Whilst 120 seconds isn’t a long time, it probably feels like 120 days when you’re up there. Right now this is a blank canvas, which I guess in itself is the epitome of ‘What If’.
If you’re at SXSW, you can catch the show on the Monday evening at The Parish above Jazz, 614 E 6th Street. The show begins at 7pm. See you there!

Sweet. The question is VERY open ended and ambiguous... and reminds me of a Futurama episode.
By the way... 2 minutes is 120 seconds, not 180... oops.
Cool. I'm really chuffed for you.
I do, however, fear that you and Jon are getting to big for the Multipack now though. 20×2, SXSW... what's next - @media?
Well done chap!
Make sure you get it filmed so we can see on youtube. What is a Walsall boy doing chatting at this kind of event?
[Jealous setting in]
@trovster: 180 seconds - arghhh! Yet another reminder to not be writing blog posts at one in the morning - although I guess the results can be entertaining! I have corrected my miscalculation, thanks!
Thanks guys.
I think you should flip out like Howard Dean and just throw your fist in the air and scream BEEYAW! Except, like, hold the EEEEE for a bit. You know, to fill the whole two minutes.
;)
Hats off to you for not only the invitation to speak but the courage to do it.
It feels like about 5 seconds when you're up there. It's fun, I promise, just enjoy it!
And your comments form still won't remember my details! argh!
@Jon: Let's hope so. Just need to make sure I have something to talk about. With regards to the comment form, I know, and it bugs me too - one day I will have an hour to set aside and work out what the hell is wrong with it!
Excellent news Paul. Just know your subject, be confident and you will be fine.
According to the dates in your upcoming section you did this seven years ago though!
What If... everybody stopped spotting these little errors!
I'm not sure why upcoming is showing wonky dates - there's one there from 2030 too - weird.
