What If... The Result

So, on Monday evening I took the plunge and made my debut speaking engagement at the 20×2 event at SXSW. Luckily, it all came together at the last minute (and I mean last minute) and wasn’t too embarrassing. For those that weren’t there, here it is:

Overall, I think I pulled it out of the bag. It turned out to be bit of a promotion for Ning and the US, and the fact that the lyrics of the song ‘…where I belong…’ coincided with the many (many) pictures of Las Vegas - a place not top of my list of favourite cities - certainly wasn’t planned.

Had I come up with this What If… a week earlier (instead of spending an entire week trying to answer the question ‘What If the Web was invented 10 years earlier’, which turned out to be a minefield) it may have been as good as the video that followed it. Created by Glenda Bautista, it’s answer was very similar to mine, but far more polished.

Khoi Vinh’s was probably the one I enjoyed the most: What If… We Could Eat Online. Having said that, all the presentations were excellent, and I loved the variety of answers the question generated.

Finally, a big thank-you to Kevin Newsum and his team. The event was fantastically well put together, and aside from the nerves, thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm glad it went so well but there's a problem...

The video isn't loading. Is anyone else encountering this?

My mistake - it seems to be the work proxy.

The Remember these details checkbox doesn't seem to be working now though. I'm dead certain that isn't my end!

If one more person mentions the 'Remember these details' checkbox...!

Yes, I think it's a case of removing it until I can actually get it working again!

Not what I was expecting, but I liked it!

Oh and for getting up on stage and doing that I take back every time I've called you a pussy!

Good stuff mate!
Although I would have closed with a caption saying "what if I had never met Kris Benbow" and then followed it with loads of pictures of you with a sad face!

btw - your 'Remeber these details' tick box doesnt seem to work.

Awesome awesome.

I didn't even bother clicking the "Remeber" box. :-(

I absolutely ADORE your video! Seriously, it made me stupid giddy and all smiles.

This is a little timely for me as well... next Wednesday I'll fly to New York and meet Anthony (Squarespace) in person for the first time. Two years of collaborating via phone, email and chat and never met him once face-to-face. I'm crazy excited... sure you can relate.

Hmm... I'm thinking next year I need to attend SXSW. Between your blog entries and the pictures I've seen on Flickr, I feel like I really missed out on some hero worship. ;)
